Frequently Asked Questions
What is your approach to therapy?
I believe in a person-centred, humanistic approach to therapy. You are going to be met with unconditional positive regard, non-judgement and empathy, always.
You are the driver of our sessions and you get to dictate what you want to talk about and work on together.
I have a non-directive approach and I hope to empower you to make the decisions that are best for your life, as I believe you are the expert in your own life and that we all have the capacity to heal, sometimes with some help.
I work from a collaborative, trauma-informed approach and am always striving to offer the most culturally competent practice I can.
I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches to best meet your needs. Some of my preferred modalities are Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Attachment Theory, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
What is therapy like?
Good therapy should be a space where you feel comfortable talking about things you might not have the space or safety to do elsewhere in your life.
Therapy is an opportunity for you to begin to recognize maladaptive patterns, process difficult life changes and loss, and start to make positive changes to feel better. Therapy might feel challenging sometimes because change can be difficult but I always hope to help you feel safe, supported, and cared for.
I endeavour to help all my clients expand their self-awareness and gain new tools to use to cope with life’s challenges.
Do you offer a free consultation call?
Of course! The therapeutic relationship is the most important factor for achieving positive outcomes and it is important to me that we both feel like we are a good fit for each other.
I offer a free 15-minute phone call where you can tell me a little bit about what you are looking for in therapy and ask me any questions you might have. There is absolutely no pressure to book a session afterwards.
Are you currently taking on new clients or is there a waitlist?
I currently have a waitlist for new clients. (Updated January 30 2025).
How often should we see each other and how many sessions will I need?
In the beginning, I recommend we meet weekly for a few sessions to get to know each other and build some momentum. Ultimately I leave this decision up to you depending on your need and availability of time and finances. Most of my clients see me either every week, biweekly or monthly.
I don’t believe in “quick fixes” or “get well fast” schemes. We will take our time working through your challenges, there is no rush and no limit on the number of sessions. You are always free to let me know when you feel we’ve accomplished your goals and to come back when/if needed.
How long is a session?
Each session is about 60 minutes.
How much does a session cost?
My fee is $140 per session which is due the same day we meet for an appointment and can be paid by credit card or e-transfer.
Do you offer a sliding scale?
Not at this time.
Are you covered by insurance?
Yes! You will need to check with your insurance provider to ensure they covered Registered Psychotherapists. If so, we are good to go!
I do not provide direct billing. You will need to pay upfront and submit your receipt to be reimbursed by your benefits provider.
I am recognized as a provider for Medavie Blue Cross and Sunlife.
What is your cancellation policy?
I require at least 24 hours notice to cancel or rebook a session. Within the 24-hour window or if you miss a session altogether, you will be charged the full session fee.
